Shorts

The best advice available - If you only buy one item of cycle specific clothing you must make sure you buy a decent pair of cyclingshorts! If you are not sat comfortably on the bike you simply wont enjoy it and as a result you will stop doing it.  

Obviously people can cycle in any clothing, but in order to feel comfortable on the bike, it is worth getting some decent cycle clothing that is tailor made for the job. There is no more important cycle garmet to use than a pair of specific cycling shorts, Cycling shorts are the key to making cycling comforatble and enjoyable, for obvious reasons. Your bum is one of your three contact points with the bike and if it gets sore there is no chance of enjoying your cycling!  Typically cycling shorts feature a built in pad which will let you stay in the saddle all day if you want to. They are made from tecnical fabric which again help wick any moisture away which helps to avoid irritation. 

Cycling shorts come in various styles. For those who are slighly more self-conscious and do nopt feel comfortable in a tight fitting Lycra cycle short, it is possible to buy a undershort which contains the pad and can be used under a out garmet. Also available is the "Baggy" short which contains the padded insert for comfy cycling. These are typically used my mountain bikers and those who dont want a tight lycra short. Bib-shorts are another style of short, these are basicaly a short with a set of braces on the top for added comfort. These are extremely comfortable to use as they brace (bib) takes away any pressure from the stomarch area, while holding the pad in the correct place. A real must for any cyclist doing regular cycling or longer distance cycling.
