Shimano Gears
Shimano Gears from Askew Cycles
Many bicycles use a variable ratio transmission system that contains sprockets, a chain and a mechanism that moves the chain from one sprocket to the next. This system is called derailleur gears, and the two principal manufacturers of this type of gears are Campagnolo and Shimano. Shimano gears are designed for both mountain bikes and road bikes, whereas Campagnolo specializes in derailleurs for road cycling only.
Shimano gears feature a floating top jockey wheel. They also contain shallow, thin teeth that are quite different from most of the higher, fuller teeth manufactured by other companies. The teeth of Shimano gears easily derail the chain sideways to the next one. Hence, Shimano gears result in much easier gear shifting.
Types of Shimano Gears
Askew Cycles offers three high-quality Shimano gears: the Shimano 08 Deore XT C/Set+BB, the Shimano 08 Deore XT RR MECH XT M771 T/N and the Shimano Bottom Bracket UN54 BS 73.
The XT M771 rear derailleur features very comfortable shifting thanks to the double servo-panta mechanism that produces smooth, precise chain movement to the relevant gear. This model is also very tough to break, features simple cable routing and is very lightweight.
The Shimano UN54 Bottom Bracket features a durable sealed cartridge bottom bracket with a square tapered spindle fitting, a lightweight hollow spindle and a maintenance-free sealed cartridge bearing assembly which keeps out mud, water and dirt for longer life. The super-accurate bearings permit improved durability and smoother operation, and the bracket can be quickly and easily installed without any adjustments.
