History of Mavic

Mavic stands for Manufacture d’Articles Vélocipédiques Idoux et Chanel.  The French company manufacturers bicycle parts and has become synonymous with high quality.  In fact, many cyclists choose Mavic wheels when they ride in the world’s most prestigious cycling race – the Tour de France.  The company also offers a very unique service called “Service des Courses”.  Basically, it provides free wheel changes or bike swaps to riders of any affiliation in various bicycle races worldwide.

Although the company creates various bicycle components, it’s most renowned for its high quality, lightweight allow rims.  Mavic offers tires designed specifically for tracks, triathlons, roads and mountain bikes.

Askew Cycles carries the following Mavic rims:  A 719, CXP 22S and the Open Pro.  They are all highly resistant to corrosion and feature UB Control or milled braking surfaces which produce smoother, more efficient braking.  The A 719 and the Open Pro feature an internal wear indicator, whereas the indicator on the CXP 22S is external.

Many long distance riders prefer the A 719 because of its durability.  The CPX 22 is also a great choice because of its unrivalled aerodynamics.  However, the pièce de résistance is the Open Pro which is set to hit the roads in 2008.
