Cycling Gloves

Riding gloves or mitts are an essential part of the cycling wardrobe. Your hands are one of the three major contact points between a rider and bike. The hands take a lot of the vibration from road and off road cycling, with your grip varying dependant on the difficulty of terrain and/or effort being applied, resulting in sores and blisters. Along with this they can also provide a protective layer from road rash, branches and other unexpected obstacles. For example, if a rider falls, cycling gloves provide an extra layer that takes the brunt of the road rash, resulting with there being no serious damage to your hands.

Also cycling gloves provide the rider with some weather protection.  Hands are relatively immobile and exposed, as a result, the wind chill in cold weather can quickly set in and a good warm pair of gloves with windproof or waterproof material makes all the difference to the enjoyment of a ride.

There are two catogries of gloves, FULL FINGERED and MITTS. Full finger gloves come in many different forms designed for different conditions and types of riding. All will give some warmth and protection from the elements. Mitts are often referred to as track mitts. Mitts are designed to protect your hands and provide comfort whilst cycling on or off road. Made to specifically fit men and women, cycle mitts are fingerless and short; only covering the hands from the first set of knuckles to the heel of the hand/start of the wrist.
